Welcome to CISC ----Joint Center for Intelligent Spatial Computing

The joint Center for Intelligent Spatial Computing (CISC) is established on March 1, 2006 within the College of Science (COS), and under the direction of Dr. Chaowei Phil Yang (Director) and Dr. David Wong (Chief Scientist). CISC is established on our research of spatial computing and collaborations with our domestic and international agencies/partners, including NASA, NSF, NPS, EPA, FGDC, Peking University, Wuhan University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and HeiLongJiang Bureau of Surveying and Mapping. Targeted to be an international innovator and leader, CISC's research is focused on distributed geospatial information processing, geospatial information interoperability, high performance geospatial information processing, and geoapplications of national and international significance.

CISC's computing facility includes a 25TB storage and 3TFlops computing power and
the connection to LamdaRail and SURAGrid. The infrastructure supports our research of:
1) fast distributed geospatial information processing
2) geospatial middleware
3) near real-time traffic routing
4) grid enabling dust-storm and public health simulations, and
5) many others, such as Chesapeake Bay Restoration model simulations.

CISC's research and development serves the nation's needs of geosciences: for example, the NASA Earth Science Gateway (ESG, http://esg.gsfc.nasa.gov/), which serves the NASA Earth Sciences community. The Earth Information Exchange (EIE, http://eie.esipfed.org/), which serves the Earth Science Information Partnership with over 100 agencies and institutions.
